A survey of adult mosquitoes hibernating in 86 cellars in Osijek, Croatia (formerly part of Yugoslavia), was conducted during the winter of 1985-86. Culex pipiens form molestus was the most numerous species (n=800 (91% of all mosquitoes)), and found in every cellar sampled. Anopheles maculipennis s.l. and Culiseta annulata were also found (n=44 (4%) and 46 (5%), respectively) but were considerably less numerous than Culex pipiens form molestus.
