The Ordos Plateau is a geographical region administratively comprising the whole Ih-Ju League of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, part of the Yulin Prefecture of Shaanxi Province, and part of Yanchi County of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Since 1949, the socialist system and public land ownership led to a new course of economic development but also accelerated environmental degradation.
