Improving kiwifruit vine productivity with plant growth regulators

In experiments conducted at Te Puna, New Zealand, application of hydrogen cyanamide (2.8%) in July/early Aug. to the same vines for 5 seasons, starting in 1985, increased annual export yields by 12.1-62.5%. Treated vines yielded up to 170 kg; seasonal differences had a greater influence on subsequent flowering than the previous crop load. CPPU at 5 micro g/ml applied as a single spray to developing fruits 2 weeks after fruit set increased mean fruit size by 20% at harvest.
