Improving the accuracy of standing-volume estimates based on yield tables with the aid of data from systematic forest inventories

The accuracy of estimates of standing volume based on general yield tables for beech (Fagus sylvatica) and Norway spruce (Picea abies) was checked by data from periodic sample inventories in part of Lower Saxony. This showed some significant deviations between the volumes obtained by sampling and these given by the yield tables.
