Incidence of the tobacco veinal necrotic strain of potato virus Y (PVYN) in Canada in 1990 and 1991 and scientific basis for eradication of the disease

Incidence of the tobacco veinal necrotic strain of potato virus Y (PVYN) in Canada in 1990 and 1991 and scientific basis for eradication of the disease

Canadian Plant Disease Survey 72(2): 113-119

The programme to eradicate the necrotic strain of potato Y potyvirus from potatoes in Canada is described. The basis of the Canadian eradication initiative lies in the significant difference between occurrence of PVYN, the virus spread and aphid flight in European countries in the 1950s, and those of 1990-91 occurring in Canada when the PVYN outbreak took place.
