Increasing farm income and employment in hilly areas: a study in Himachal Pradesh

Increasing farm income and employment in hilly areas: a study in Himachal Pradesh

Agricultural Situation in India 46(12): 921-924

This article attempts to answer the question of whether the farm sector in the hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh alone is able to absorb the growing labour force gainfully. A comparative study of profitability and labour use in cereal and vegetable crops reveals that a shift away from cereal production towards vegetable production would stimulate growth in farm income and lead to greater employment opportunities.
