India: a developing country as regards tourism?

In contrast to other Third World countries, India has enormous tourism potential. Nevertheless, the number of foreign tourists visiting India is insignificant on a global scale. Only the three cities of Agra, Delhi and Jaipur and the beach resorts of Goa have so far developed a touristic profile which is comparable to equivalent facilities in neighbouring Thailand and Malaysia. The main reasons for this lie in the spheres of accommodation and traffic systems.
