The 4 varieties used (Hong Zui Yian, Hangzhou Qing Pi, Sha Fu Qing and Shanghai Hong Jiang) were of 3 phenotypes: light-green flower buds, light-green pods, black seeds; green flower buds, green pods, red seeds; light-green flower buds, purple pods, red seeds.
