Insecticides and heavy metals effects on free-living rhizobia and nitrogen fixation by alfalfa inoculated with Rhizobium meliloti

Insecticides and heavy metals effects on free-living rhizobia and nitrogen fixation by alfalfa inoculated with Rhizobium meliloti

Microbiologie, Aliments, Nutrition 10(4): 427-434

The effects of some insecticides and heavy metals on : (1) the growth of 72 strains of free-living rhizobia ; and (2) nitrate-grown Medicago sativa were examined. Their growth was particularly affected by carbaryl, Zn++, Co++, and Cu++. When lucerne was inoculated with Rhizobium meliloti strain 45 and treated with carbaryl, Co++, and Cr++, normal concn of these substances did not affect the dry matter yield, total nitrogen content and rhizobial ability of nodulation or infectivity.
