Insects from the shrubs Osteospermum sinuatum and Pteronia pallens (Asteraceae) in the southern Karoo

Insects were surveyed on the shrubs Osteospermum sinuatum and Pteronia pallens in South Africa during 1988-92. Of 27 phytophagous insect species collected on O. sinuatum by beating, 14 had larvae or adults that chewed foliage, 9 were sucking species and 4 fed inside stems or developing seeds. Cassida sp. was the most common species on O. sinuatum. Eleven phytophagous species were found on P. pallens, with 6 being sap suckers.
