Institutionalization of the farming systems research and extension approach in the agricultural training system in Tanzania

The Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in Tanzania has recently taken steps to incorporate a farming systems research and extension (FSR/E) approach in its curriculum. The first phase which lasted for three academic years (1988-90) was meant to develop awareness, both within the staff as well as the students, of the farming systems perspective in research, extension as well as in their teaching.
