Invasive aspergillosis in liver transplant recipients: association with candidaemia and consumption coagulopathy and failure of prophylaxis with low-dose amphotericin B

, : Invasive aspergillosis in liver transplant recipients: association with candidaemia and consumption coagulopathy and failure of prophylaxis with low-dose amphotericin B. Clinical Infectious Diseases 17(5): 906-908

Invasive aspergillosis developed in 3 (5%) of 55 adult liver transplant recipients at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Pittsburgh, USA. All 3 patients (39-, 40- and 46-yr-old men) developed post-operative candidaemia due to Candida albicans (2 cases) and C. tropicalis (1), and concomitant consumption coagulopathy. All cases were treated with intravenous amphotericin B (0.5 or 1.0 mg/kg daily).

Three methods are introduced here to fully characterize glycosylation at protein, peptides, and glycan levels by LC-MS (ESI TOF MS). At protein level, glycosylation could be detected by comparing protein masses with and without glycan. At peptide...
