Investigation of nitrification and denitrification in single-stage and two-stage activated sludge plants
A 6 month experiment was undertaken to compare nitrification and denitrification rates in a single-stage and 2-stage activated sludge plants by operating 2 lab.-scale plants in parallel. The 2-stage plant consisted of a high-rate and a low-rate aeration stage in keeping with AB technology. For identical sewage conditions, the test results showed better nitrification and denitrification rates and lower space requirements for the low-rate aeration stage in the 2-stage plant.
