Investigation of the mortality of regenerating seedlings following logging of lowland rainforest

Klinkii 4(2): 28-33
Investigation of the mortality of regenerating seedlings following logging of lowland rainforest
A report of a study carried out in 1989 at Labu, near Lae, Papua New Guinea, in a forest selectively logged in the previous year. Dominant genera in the forest were (in order of importance) Pometia, Elmerrillia, Syzygium, Calophyllum, Hopea, Palaquium, Endospermum, Flindersia, Sloanea and Canarium. Five plots were established at each of 3 sites: in open gaps with no shade, in partial shade, and in high shade under a closed canopy.
