Long term selection for four-week body weight in Japanese quail

Selection for 4-week body weight was carried out over 88 generations in 2 lines of Japanese quails, fed a diet containing 28% protein or 20% protein + 0.2% thiouracil. Sublines were established in generations 20, 27, 39, 47, 68 and 77 to determine the effects of changes in the selection environment on the response to selection. Genetic parameters for short-term selection responses were found to be similar to those in fowls.
