Machinery costs 1995. Cost elements and depreciation estimates for agricultural machinery usage

, : Machinery costs 1995. Cost elements and depreciation estimates for agricultural machinery usage. FAT Berichte, Switzerland ( 449): 32 pp.

A guide to costs (Swiss francs) per working hour or unit of work (ha, t, etc.) is presented in tabular form for 17 classes of equipment, including vehicles without implements; auxiliary equipment for vehicles; auxiliary equipment for single axle tractors; trailers; tillage equipment; sowing and planting equipment; fertilizer distributors; plant protection; forage, cereal, maize, potato and beet harvesting; electric motors and generators; equipment for indoor use; forestry and concrete mixing machinery; and equipment for use in viticulture and orchards. Expenses incurred are identified as fixed costs (depreciation, insurance premiums, interest, taxes) and operational costs (repairs and maintenance, fuels, oil). A sample calculation of depreciation estimates and farm-related costs is presented, and factors to consider when buying or renting a machine are discussed, taking the example of a mounted maize chopper. Savings through better use of capacity and machine size selection are also covered.
