Milking ability of machine milked Rouge de l'Ouest ewes: first results

Milking ability of machine milked Rouge de l'Ouest ewes: first results

Proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Machine Milking of Small Ruminants, Kibbutz Shefayin, near Tel Aviv, Israel, September 13-19, 1989: 290-299

The Rouge de l'Ouest is a large ( 70-90 kg), prolific (overall lambing percentage: 185) breed, with improved growth and carcass qualities, and very good milking ability: the av. daily gain 10-30 days of the male twin lamb is 255 g. Two protocols for studying the production of the ewes when machine milked are presented: 10 ewes were machine milked from the day following lambing over a 13-wk period; 120 ewes in a commercial flock were machine milked after a suckling period of 50 days.
