Mineral supplementation of young sheep on the south coast of Western Australia

Mineral supplementation of young sheep on the south coast of Western Australia

Proceedings of the Australian Society of Animal Production 19: 371-374

At 5 sites across the south coast of Western Australia in the summer/autumn of 2 years, Merino weaned lambs grazed dry pasture and were supplemented to maintain liveweight with lupins, lupins coated with gypsum, or lupins with access to a loose mineral lick. Marker bar results indicated that most (80-100%) sheep were licking the minerals, and estimates of average daily intake were generally between 10 and 20 g/head.
