The surface properties of negative charge and strong hydrophobicity indicated that Mycobacterium phlei had the ability to take up hematite from solution. The recovery of hematite by flotation was dependant on the pH of the solution and concn of M. phlei present. A high correlation between flotation recovery levels and bacterial adhesion on hematite was observed.
