Nitrogen economy in pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) and blackgram (Phaseolus mungo) intercropping system under rainfed conditions of Vindhyan plateau

In a field experiment on sandy clay loam (Ultisol) during the rainy seasons of 1989-90 at Barkachha, Uttar Pradesh, P. glaucum WCC 75 and black gram Type 9 were grown in pure stands or intercropped. P. glaucum was given 40, 60 or 80 kg N and black gram was given 0, 10 or 20 kg N/ha under both cropping systems. P. glaucum grain yields and black gram seed yields increased with increase in N rate in pure stands.
