Magnesium, sodium and potassium requirements for weight gain were studied in 3 groups of Nelore (NE), Nelore x Marchigiana (NM) and Nelore x Limousin (NL) bulls fed to appetite on a diet of 50% roughage and 50% concentrates. Mg, Na and K retention was estimated by the comparative slaughter method. Four bulls in each group were slaughtered initially and the remaining bulls at 90, 100 and 110% of the mature weight of cows in their respective genetic groups.
