Nutritional requirements of finishing beef cattle. Energy requirement for maintenance and weight gain

Energy requirement for maintenance and gain were studied in 3 groups of 22 Nelore (NE), Nelore x Marchidiana (NM) and Nelore x Limousin (NL) bulls, mean age 20 months and mean liveweight 252, 329.5 and 338.9 kg, respectively, fed a diet of 50% roughage and 50% concentrates. Apparent digestibility of dietary energy was estimated throughout in 2 bulls from each group kept in metabolism cages. Energy retention was estimated by the comparative slaughter method.
