Phylogeny of the Vibrionaceae, and recommendation for two new genera, Listonella and Shewanella

Phylogeny of the Vibrionaceae, and recommendation for two new genera, Listonella and Shewanella

Systematic and Applied Microbiology 6(2): 171-182

Based on ribonucleotide sequences for 5S rRNAs from 31 type cultures and freshly isolated strains representing species of the family Vibrionaceae, it is proposed that the structure of the family be revised along phylogenetic lines, with the establishment of two new genera, Listonella and Shewanella, and a new family Aeromonadaceae.
