Rotary cultivation to 10 cm depth (rotavator) and ploughing to 25 cm depth (mouldboard plough) were compared at 2 N application rates (50 or 100 kg/ha) on a clay soil at Tune in SE Norway sown to barley, oats and wheat. The experiment was established in the autumn of 1976 and results to 1990 are presented. Rotary cultivation yielded 200 kg grain/ha more on average than ploughing.
