Population, resources and food: the world between today and tomorrow

Quarterly Journal of International Agriculture 32(4): 336-350

This paper gives an overview of the world situation with regard to population, resources and food. The world population is presently 5500 million and is increasing by 93 million per year. An historical perspective on world population is given, highlighting Malthusian theory. The economic and natural science perspectives are put forward. The outlook for the future, in terms of population growth and its effects on both renewable and non-renewable resources, is discussed.
