Possibilities of the recognition and control of inherited disorders in the breeding of domestic animals, as exemplified by the pathogenetic monitoring of AI bulls

This paper discusses the current situation as regards the control of inherited disorders of cattle in Germany, the frequencies of these, the economic cost and aetiology of disorders, possibilities and prerequisites for control of disorders, and the stages in a programme for preventing the spread of disorders through the use of AI bulls. For the cattle population of Hesse, the main inherited abnormalities are listed.
