In field trials in the winter seasons of 1987-89 at Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh, chickpeas were grown alone or intercropped with barley as a mixture or in a 2:2 row ratio, Brassica juncea in a mixture or 4:1 or 8:1 row ratios, safflower or linseed in a 2:2 row ratio or wheat in a mixture or 2:2 row ratio. Seed yield of chickpeas was 1.59-1.93 t/ha when grown alone and 0.44-1.75 t when intercropped.
