The paper analyses the basis of the context for predominance in representation of Brazilian farmers during the period of transition to democracy. In particular, it analyses the emergence of new organizations as alternatives to the old corporate organizations of the Estado Novo period, stressing the importance of sectoral lines and the founding of the CAIs.
