Puberal performance of Targhee ewe lambs selected for weaning weight or litter size

Puberal performance of Targhee ewe lambs selected for weaning weight or litter size

Sheep Research Journal 8(2): 54-58

149 Targhee ewe lambs from 2 lines selected for weaning weight, a line selected for multiple births, and an unselected control line, were observed daily for oestrus using vasectomized rams; their plasma progesterone level was also monitored by weekly blood sampling. 98 lambs showed behavioural oestrus, and 46 ovulated without showing oestrus. There was no significant difference in age at behavioural oestrus among lines (overall least-squares mean = 289.4 days).
