Regulation of nitrogen fixation genes in Rhizobium meliloti


, : Regulation of nitrogen fixation genes in Rhizobium meliloti. Advances in molecular genetics of plant microbe interactions: 195-202

Evidence is presented for the role of FixL in the oxygen sensitive expression of nifA and fixK using Escherichia coli as a heterologous system and the oligonucleotide directed mutagenesis of fixJ was used to study the role of phosphorylation in the transduction of the regulatory signal. This study indicated a dependence between the activation of nifA and fixK expression and the phosphorylation of FixJ aspartate residues.
