Regulation of populations of pear psyllid Cacopsylla pyri (L.) by a generalist predator, Forficula auricularia L

, : Regulation of populations of pear psyllid Cacopsylla pyri (L.) by a generalist predator, Forficula auricularia L. Bulletin OILB/SROP 17(2): 125-131

The numerical and spatial components of predation by Forficula auricularia on populations of Cacopsylla pyri were studied in the laboratory at 21 degrees C and LD 16:8 and in pear orchards in France. Young 3rd-instar larvae of F. auricularia destroyed 1000 eggs/day in the laboratory, with 3rd- and 4th-instar larvae attacking all stages of the psyllid. In the orchard, 3rd-instar larvae left their mother and colonized vegetation while the psyllid was laying 3rd-generation eggs.
