Regulation of the maize Spm transposable element: an hypothesis

, : Regulation of the maize Spm transposable element: an hypothesis. Maize Genetics Cooperation Newsletter ( 66): 14-15

A diagram is presented showing the authors' view of how transcription and translation of the Suppressor-mutator (Spm) transposable element are regulated. It is proposed that the TnpA protein exerts 2 kinds of regulatory effect, one which promotes and one which represses element transcription. The presence of TnpA protein favours reduced methylation and element expression.
