Traps were deployed around cotton fields in Washington County, Mississippi, and monitored daily from 1 June till mid Sept. 1989. Nighttime observations of moth activity were conducted 4 nights/week and whole cotton plants were inspected for eggs and larvae following nighttime sampling. The proportion of immature Heliothis zea collected was 18%. H. virescens was the predominant Heliothis species ovipositing (82%), captured by hand (84%) and in trap collections (53%).
