Relationship between pheromone trap catches of male Spodoptera litura and oviposition in soybean and sugarbeet at Pantnagar, Uttar Pradesh, India

, : Relationship between pheromone trap catches of male Spodoptera litura and oviposition in soybean and sugarbeet at Pantnagar, Uttar Pradesh, India. Journal of Plant Protection in the Tropics 8(2): 121-124

The female sex pheromone of Spodoptera litura Fabricius was used as the attractant in ICRISAT standard pheromone traps to monitor male moth activity at the Crop Research Center, Pantnagar, India from June 1988 of June 1990. A number of distinct peaks in trap catch were observed each year, which, during the period of peak moth activity, showed a significant correlation with oviposition in soybean (rainy) and sugarbeet (post rainy) fields. Pheromone traps may therefore serve as a warning device indicating potential attack of S. litura.
