Relationship between primary lactose malabsorption and dairy products consumption

, : Relationship between primary lactose malabsorption and dairy products consumption. Anales Espanoles de Pediatria 38(2): 107-112

The influence of lactose malabsorption on the consumption of milk products was investigated. Subjects were 157 children and 43 adults. The breath-hydrogen test was used to define levels of lactose digestion. The prevalence of lactose maldigesters was 12%. A relationship was found between consumption of milk and milk products and age. Malabsorbers consumed more cultured milk products (ripened cheese and yoghurt) than did absorbers (P<0.005).
