Response of rice (Oryza sativa) to nitrogen fertilization in rotation with sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) and soyabeans (Glycine max)

In field trials near Quepos, Costa Rica in 1985, upland rice CR 201 was sown after incorporating residues of preceding soyabean or sorghum crops and was given 0-120 kg N as urea. Rice grain yields increased with increasing N rate from 3.5 t without N to 5.4 t/ha with 120 kg N following soyabeans and from 2.0 t to 4.1 t following sorghum.
