In tests during 1987-89, the 1230 Vigna radiata varieties treated with 1.8% NaCl were classified according to the percentage of salt damage based on germination in the control and after treatment. There were 25 varieties with less than 20% damage at this stage. The salt tolerance of seedlings was evaluated in nutrient solution with 1.3% NaCl. Only 4 varieties had normal growth.
