Crossbred calves (36), 20 in winter and 16 in summer, were subgrouped equally at random for housing in open and shed housing. Daily weight gain were significantly higher in winter. Rectal temperature and rate of respiration under open and shed in both seasons increased significantly at evening as compared to morning. Heart rate under open increased significantly at evening irrespective of season. The diurnal variation of rectal temperature, rate of respiration and heart rate were significantly higher under open environment as compared to under shed, irrespective of seasons. The adaptability coefficient (on the basis of heat tolerance tests i.e. IHTC, BCA and DSI) showed significantly higher adaptability of crossbred calves under shed environment as compared to under open environment.
