Sheep fattening techniques in the Sudano-Sahelian region of Senegal

Sheep fattening techniques in the Sudano-Sahelian region of Senegal

Revue d' Elevage et de Medecine Veterinaire des Pays Tropicaux 45(3/4): 321-328

Sheep feeding trials at the Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Agriculture and in village farms in the groundnut basin of Senegal during 1990 and 1991 are reported. For 100 days 57 Touabire rams kept, from about 40 kg liveweight, in loose housing conditions were fed on 1 of 3 diets based on Andropogon gayanus silage; grass straw and sugarcane molasses; and groundnut husks and molasses. Mean daily gain was 79+or-38, 83+or-52 and 75+or-57 g, respectively.
