The encapsulation of the insecticide diazinon (as Basudin) was successfully achieved in 3 starch matrices. One starch borate matrix was prepared by using NaOH to solubilize the starch, and another by using boiling boric acid solution. A calcium adduct was also prepared. The encapsulation of borate with NaOH was used for 3 starches: maize, cassava and dasheen, which are all produced locally in Jamaica.
