Studies on the prevention of tuberculosis in pet dogs. 1. The effects of BCG pretreatment in pet dogs inoculated experimentally with Mycobacterium bovis

Of 4 one-month-old dogs, 2 were injected i.d. with 0.2 ml of BCG; 3 weeks later all 4 were inoculated i.p. with 1x107 M. bovis. There were 2 controls. PM examination 4 months later showed nodules of 1-3 cm in the lungs of the 2 non-vaccinated, infected dogs (group I), and smaller nodules in the vaccinated dogs (group II). The group I dogs had higher bronchoalveolar lavage cell counts than group II.
