Studies on the process of sexual reproduction in foxtail millet (Setaria italica P. Beauv). I. Cytological observations on the fertilization in foxtail millet

Observations of the fertilization process in S. italica showed that pollen grains were 3-celled, and that the pollen tube reached the embyro sac about 30 min after pollination. Double fertilization occurred within 40 to 180 min, and metaphase in the 1st mitosis in the primary endosperm nucleus was reached 3 h after pollination.
