Abstract
The response of 24 European T. aestivum f.sp. spelta [T. spelta] cultivars to inoculation with isolates of E. graminis f.sp. tritici (12) and P. recondita f.sp. tritici (43) was assessed visually at the seedling stage. Only cultivar Baulander Spelz showed qualitative resistance to E. graminis f.sp. tritici; all other cultivars were either moderately resistant or susceptible to this pathogen. A broad spectrum of resistance was observed to P. recondita f.sp. tritici. No completely resistant varieties were observed but 5 cultivars gave a resistance reaction to most of the P. recondita f.sp. tritici isolates and 12 cultivars were characterized by a resistance response to a group of 4 isolates.
