Studies on zinc nutrition of lentil in relation to yield and nitrogen uptake

In a field experiment on sandy loam soil at Pantnagar, Uttar Pradesh, lentil Pant L-406 seeds were coated with 0.05, 0.10, 0.20 or 0.40% zinc oxide, given a basal application of 5, 10, 15 or 20 kg Zn/ha as ZnSO4 or foliar application of 0.5% ZnSO4 at 15, 30 or 45 d after emergence (DAE), or 15 + 30 or 15 + 45 DAE. The highest N uptake at maturity was obtained from the foliar application 15 + 45 DAE. This was not significantly different from coating seed with 0.10% ZnO.
