Study of Hemerocallis sp. introduction and cultivar features

Flower buds of Hemerocallis sp. are of importance in Chinese cuisine. When 19 cultivars were introduced into the city of Taiyuan (Shanxi province) from Qidon in Hunan province, most grew and set seed satisfactorily but showed a delay in the various growth stages. The plants of the 19 cultivars were not as vigorous as those of local varieties. There were significant intervarietal differences in number of flower buds, with Cha Zi Hua having the most buds (80.6 per flower stalk).
