In field experiments in 1989-90 M. sativa was inoculated with Rhizobium meliloti by seed pelleting with peat, pelleting with peat + CaCO3 + B, soil inoculation before or after sowing, spraying with R. meliloti liquid broth after seedling emergence, or was not inoculated.
