The phenology of the apple pest Cydia pomonella was monitored with pheromone traps in 17 field experiments in the Havelland region of Germany in 1985-91. Close linear relationships were established between the beginning of the flight periods and oviposition and egg hatching, and between peak flight and increasing oviposition. In East Germany, when 3-day catches exceed 20 males/trap, there is a high probability of damage, whereas at <10 males/trap injurious infestation is not to be expected.
