The Jamaican tourist industry: domestic economic growth and development

The Jamaican tourist industry: domestic economic growth and development

Tourism marketing and management in the Caribbean: 41-57

Among the countries of the Commonwealth Caribbean, Jamaica possessed the largest hotel room capacity in 1990. Since 1985, tourism has typically contributed more foreign exchange to the Jamaican economy each year than any other domestic sector. Significant variability in tourism proceeds has persisted, together with dependency on the US market, which accounts for 75% of all tourist arrivals, and intensive cooperative efforts by the public and private sectors to develop the industry.
