The ant repellent function of the rubbing substance in an Old World polistine, Parapolybia indica (Hymenoptera Vespidae)

The substance secreted by the gland associated with van der Vecht's organ of P. indica applied to the nest petiole during rubbing behaviour has an ant repelling effect.
