The application of New Zealand Dairy Board concepts to the U.S. dairy industry

The application of New Zealand Dairy Board concepts to the U.S. dairy industry

AFPC Policy Issues Paper ( 94-1): 10pp.

As the Uruguay Round of GATT is implemented, pressures on the US dairy industry to become more export competitive will intensify. This paper explores the options for applying the New Zealand Dairy Board concept to the US dairy industry. This is done within the current US dairy policy framework involving milk price supports and federal milk marketing orders. The paper begins with a description of the New Zealand Dairy Board, which is the exclusive exporter for the New Zealand dairy industry.
